Wish it could be better identified to differentiate from all the other Kindle Fire HD7's! There are many years/models/configures using the same name. I did have to figure the year out on my own to buy an after-market cover. The unit is a 2012 model which is about 2 years old at the time of this review, but new to me. Books and Magazines are very nice to read and browse, and quite interactive! The web is pretty much full function on most everything. I assume less stuff installed would help, just load as you need? They have many free a pps that I've enjoyed but should probably remove after using.

Still concerned about battery consumption, and how to optimize for longer use. I don't think it will ever replace a laptop, but as far as casual surfing and email, words with friends etc., it seems to do well. I just email to the cloud, and it's there! I tried to write on a "word" app, but it's clumsy with all the auto correct and second guessing my intentions. These are not online, so it's hard to get on some tablets. I use it mostly for lyrics that I write as a songwriter. I have no experience with tablets, but this is doing more than I need at this time. I have no Idea as to how it was previously used or cared for. I purchased this as a used unit, slightly scratched. As a novice, can't compare, but satisfied.
